Is it actually free?
Yes, for now. Early access includes desktop and lock-screen video plus your own imports. Pexels discovery is subject to API approval and may change. We might add paid tiers later, but we'll say so before anything changes for people who already downloaded.
Multiple monitors?
Yep. Gloam can show the current scene on every enabled display, and you can turn it off for individual screens in Settings.
Can I use my own photos?
Yes. Choose 2–100 image files with Apple's file picker, set the time per photo, and Gloam builds the slideshow locally without uploading your media.
Do I need an account?
Nope. Download, install, use. The only permission worth mentioning is Full Disk Access if you want lock screen video.
What macOS version?
Sonoma 14 or newer. Lock screen video works best on newer releases — Apple keeps changing how that pipeline works.
How do I install it?
Download the DMG, drag to Applications, right-click → Open the first time. For lock screen: enable Full Disk Access, then lock with Control+Command+Q to test.
Will you charge later?
Maybe eventually — optional paid tiers or a tip jar. Nothing's decided. If we do charge, early downloaders won't get blindsided.
Where does my stuff go?
Preferences use macOS UserDefaults. Imported videos are stored under ~/Library/Application Support/Gloam/Contents/. Gloam does not upload your personal media. See the Privacy Policy for website logs and optional network features.
What about Pexels licensing?
Pexels photos and videos are free to use under the Pexels License, but they are not copyright-free. Restrictions still apply, including limits on standalone redistribution and wallpaper services. Gloam credits Pexels and each creator, and its in-app API use remains pending Pexels approval.
